Early Life

Mark K. Robin was born and raised in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana), India, in the Musheerabad area. Growing up in a music-loving family, he was exposed to diverse genres such as jazz, Sufi, gospel, and Indian classical music. His father, a music enthusiast, purchased a large music system before Robin’s birth, fostering his early interest. Robin began playing music in church and formed a Gospel band, Extol, performing at churches across Hyderabad. Despite his father’s initial preference for an engineering career, Robin did not attend college, instead studying electronics to understand sound production. He taught music at schools like Delhi Public School and Meridian before focusing on composition full-time.

Short Films and Early Work

Robin began his career with short films, debuting with Dialogue in the Dark (2016), India’s first virtual audio short film, where he handled music and 360-degree virtual sound design. He followed with Mallikaludham (2017), earning the Best Music Award at the South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA), and Dily Bily (2018), winning the Best Music Award at the 5th Noida International Film Festival. Other early works include Bandham Regad (2016). His short film scores caught the attention of Telugu actor Nani, who hired him to compose the theatrical trailer music for Majnu (2016). Nani’s approval led to Robin’s feature film debut.

Feature Films

Robin debuted in feature films with Awe! (2018), a psychological thriller produced by Nani’s Wall Poster Cinema and directed by Prashanth Varma. The film won two National Awards (Best Supporting Actress, Best Visual Effects), and Robin’s score was praised for its innovation.
In 2019, he composed for Suryakantham, with the song Inthena Inthena—released by Puri Jagannadh—earning positive reviews for its vocals by Sid Sriram and Robin’s composition. That year, he also scored Veerabhoga Vasantha Rayulu, featuring his first English song in Telugu cinema, The World Is Dying, with a live-recorded background score.

On June 21, 2019, two of Robin’s films, Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya and Mallesham, were released, both becoming box-office hits. Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya, a detective comedy, introduced Telugu cinema’s first big band jazz composition, with 12 distinct themes praised for enhancing the film’s vintage feel. Critics lauded the score’s technical strength, with Greatandhra calling it a “main highlight.” Mallesham, a biographical drama, featured a vintage 1980s sound, with Oho Jambiya (rearranged from a Peerla Pandaga festival tune) and Naaku Nuvvani (blending jazz) noted for their authenticity. VoxSpace praised the album’s organic integration. Robin won the Mirchi Music Award for Best Composer for Naaku Nuvvani (Mallesham) and Best Upcoming Composer for Suryakantham.
Robin’s later Telugu projects include Dirty Hari (2020), Zombie Reddy (2021), Pushpaka Vimanam (2021), Bhamakalapam (2022), Mishan Impossible (2022), and The Ghost (2022), where his action-packed score and the first rap song in a Nagarjuna film were praised. In 2022, he debuted in Bollywood with Liger, composing the energetic theme Waat Laga Denge. In 2023, 8 A.M. Metro earned acclaim as a chartbuster album, with Woh Khuda and Ghoomey topping charts. Other 2023 films include Breathe and My Name Is Shruthi.
